Dinosaurs are the extinct animals that inhabited our planet 225-65 million years ago (during mesozoans period).

In ancient times people considered these bones to be the remains of the heroes of the Trojan War. During medieval times and till the 19th century these bones were considered to be the remains of giants that were mentioned in the Bible and that died during the Deluge.

According to the recent investigations from the USA Universities, dinosaurs the remains of which palaeontologists find died because of suffocation.

Dinosaurs became extinct in the end of Cretaceous period near 65 million years ago. There is no one point of view on the reason for their extinction, scientists are not even sure either they died out gradually or suddenly. This point is the point of discussions nowadays.

These animals are rather popular all over the world till nowadays despite the fact they are extinct. Nevertheless these animals are popular characters of cartoons, myths, legends and films that become rather popular.

Mamenchisaurus

Mamenchisaurus is maybe one of the most popular dinosaurs. I mean it is not rather popular for investigations and researches but this type of dinosaurs was frequently used for movies, cartoons and book plots.

But in fact Mamenchisaurus is the type of the late Jurassic herbivorous animals that existed 150-145 million years ago. These animals were the animals of the last stage of Jurassic period. The remains of this dinosaur were discovered on the territory of the modern China. This dinosaur has the longest neck of all known to science. It made about 15 meters in length.

Mamenchisaurus was discovered in 1952 during the building of the road in China. And the Chinese professor investigated the discovery and gave the name to it. And the first found example of this type was 22 meters in length. And the half of this length made the neck that made Mamenchisaurus the animal with the longest neck that ever existed on Earth. Their neck consisted of 19 jugular vertebras and this was the only animals that had such number of jugular vertebra. There are theories according to which these animals could gain 25 meters in length. And in the end of the 20th century, people found different species of Mamenchisaurus with the neck 15 meters.

As the first Mamenchisaurus was found in the place of road building the professor who investigated this dinosaur gave it the name Mamenchisaurus Constructus.
