Dinosaurs are the extinct animals that inhabited our planet 225-65 million years ago (during mesozoans period).

In ancient times people considered these bones to be the remains of the heroes of the Trojan War. During medieval times and till the 19th century these bones were considered to be the remains of giants that were mentioned in the Bible and that died during the Deluge.

According to the recent investigations from the USA Universities, dinosaurs the remains of which palaeontologists find died because of suffocation.

Dinosaurs became extinct in the end of Cretaceous period near 65 million years ago. There is no one point of view on the reason for their extinction, scientists are not even sure either they died out gradually or suddenly. This point is the point of discussions nowadays.

These animals are rather popular all over the world till nowadays despite the fact they are extinct. Nevertheless these animals are popular characters of cartoons, myths, legends and films that become rather popular.

Mosasaurus

Mosasaurus is the extinct maritime reptile that refers to the dinosaurs. This type of dinosaurs was the first described among the dinosaurs and the biggest of them.

The most characteristic features of these creatures were the big skull and the lost motion of the bones. These huge dinosaurs had the massive and cut teeth that were able to cut and to press the food.

These animals had badly developed eyesight and smell abilities. This fact can be explained by the environment in which they lived. As these were the maritime animals they practically didn't need any smell. They usually lived near the cost. And the bones have the traces of the battles that happened with other Mosasaurus. People also know about the shells of the maritime turtles that had the traces of the teeth of Mosasaurus. However the low-developed skull mechanism didn't allow swallowing big pieces of food. Probably these dinosaurs attacked any animals that could effort.

The first Mosasaurus skull was found in 80s of 18th century near Petersburg. And such name was given because of the river Maac and such denomination is translated as "the reptile that lives in the river Maac".

There are a lot of creatures that form the class of these dinosaurs. There are Mosasaurus hoffmanni, Mosasaurus conodon, Mosasaurus dekayi, Mosasaurus ivoensis and many others.
