Dinosaurs are the extinct animals that inhabited our planet 225-65 million years ago (during mesozoans period).

In ancient times people considered these bones to be the remains of the heroes of the Trojan War. During medieval times and till the 19th century these bones were considered to be the remains of giants that were mentioned in the Bible and that died during the Deluge.

Reasons for extinction

The extinction of dinosaurs was only the part of so called "great extinction" that happened during the same period. The maritime animals, the flying reptiles and many other representatives of flora and fauna became extinct during the same period. In general 16% of the maritime animals died out and 18% of animals that lived on the earth. But the majority of animals and plants survived during this period. For example, the land reptiles such as snakes, lizards, crocodiles didn't become extinct. Supposedly some dinosaurs lived in the West of North America and in India after the general extinction of other kinds of dinosaurs in other places.

There are several theories about dinosaur's extinction but the most popular is the theory about the catastrophe that happened on the surface of our planet. And supposedly it was the meteor that fell down on our planet destroying everything that was on its surface.
